Editing Opinion Article

Found Piece #1: Opinion Article on The Columbus Dispatch

My first selection of found writing edited for this portfolio is an opinion article in The Columbus Dispatch discussing white privilege prevalent in courthouse environments in the wake of the Kyle Rittenhouse case and its verdict. While the article itself appears to unfold in an appropriate length, its body possesses various issues in spacing and word choice, paired with the recurring need to elaborate certain points for the editorial’s audience to fully contextualize the argument the author is making. In revising such pieces, I ensure the writer appears reliable and professional in the reader’s eye, taking away any typographical or contextual issues that may distract the audience from considering and analyzing the author’s opinion. Also included is a letter of transmittal outlining my copy and substantive edits for the author, followed by my edited version of the document.
